Buck Creek Cotton Mills
From ShelbyWiki
Buck Creek Cotton Mills is located near downtown Alabaster, Alabama. It was originally known as the Siluria Cotton Mill Company. The main section was built in 1903-04 with the office built in 1906. The name was changed to Buck Creek Cotton Mills in 1911.
During it's operating life, the mill was self-contained and featured its own jail and company store. It also had its own water and sewage treatment plant.
The city of Alabaster recently purchased the old mill and 22 surrounding acres. The city has plans to save the mill office, the front building to the right of it and the water tower behind it as landmarks, while the rest of the structures will be demolished.
