Shelbyville, Indiana

Shelbyville is the county seat of Shelby County, Indiana. The town was incorporated January 21, 1850, by a special act of the Legislature.
One longtime Shelbyville citizen, Thomas A. Hendricks, after serving as Governor of Indiana and in other state offices, became Vice President of the United States in 1884.
Another local citizen, Charles Major, acquired national fame for several popular novels. One of his books, When Knighthood Was in Flower, was especially successful on the stage and in a movie.
